چکیده
Mucormycosis is a rare invasive fungal infection caused by fungi from the Mucorales order [1]. Mucormycosis is classified according to anatomical site of infection [2] with rhino-orbitalcerebral is the most common [3]. This fungal infection begins from the sinonasal mucosa after inhalation of fungal spores and the aggressive and rapid progression of the disease may lead to orbital and brain involvement [4]. Predisposing factors for mucormycosis include diabetes mellitus [3], systemic immunosuppression [5] (especially in patients with haematological malignancies [6]) and iron overload [7]. Mortality rates associated with mucormycosis vary depending on the site of infection and the initial health of the patient but have been reported to range between 40 and 70% [8].

Orbital mucormycosis in an immunocompetent individual
BACKGROUND Orbital mucormycosis caused by Zygomycetes is a rare and fatal infection that generally affects the patients who are immunocompromised. Despite antifungal therapy and aggressive surgical intervention, mucormycosis can cause serious and rapidly fatal infections if delayed diagnosis or therapeutic management occurs. Here, we report orbital mucormycosis in a healthy boy, with a favorabl...

Rhino-orbito-cerebral mucormycosis is a rare life-threatening opportunistic fungal infection caused by fungi from the order Mucorales [1]. The disease commonly affects immunocompromised patients, especially ketoacidotic diabetic patients [2]. We report a case of Rhinocerebral mucormycosis in a 48-year-old diabetic patient, who presented to our department with the complaints of exophthalmos in t...
متن کاملDacryocystitis presenting as post-septal cellulitis: a case report
Dacryocystitis is relatively common, the majority of patients present with pre-septal cellulitis and not an orbital abscess due to anatomical barriers. The authors report a case of dacryocystitis presenting as post-septal cellulitis in a postmenopausal lady with an underlying malignancy. Following antibiotic therapy and elective dacryocystorhinostomy the patient is still under follow-up, and ha...
